“Life Lately, The Soulhaus Celebrates its 1-Year Anniversary and Honored for Cultural Blog/Website Category, in The 27th Annual Webby Awards”

PROUDLY ADDS THE AWARD TO A GROWING LIST OF INDUSTRY RECOGNITION 

(September 7, 2023) The Soulhaus is proud to announce today the celebration of its 1-year anniversary and that the company has been honored for the category of Cultural Blog/Website in the 27th Annual Webby Awards. Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international awards organization honoring excellence on the Internet. 

“We are honored to receive such prestigious recognition so early in our platform’s journey. At The Soulhaus, every design, creative collaboration and word written is done with intention. To have that effort recognized by a distinguished organization like The Webby Awards, is the highest praise of our hard work and creative vision,” said Jocelyn McCall, The Soulhaus Co-founder and Editor-in-chief. 

The Soulhaus is an all-digital publication that features content written and art directed by a BIPOC global collective of resident writers and design creatives. Power in possibilities, inspiration and creative resilience are through-lines for the immersive editorials consisting of thought-provoking personal essays, poetic digital photography exhibits and creator features. 

Earning the distinction of Webby Honoree, as recognized by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences is a significant achievement byThe Soulhaus—granted to only the top 20% of all work entered in the 27th Annual Webby Awards.

“Honorees like The Soulhaus are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said Claire Graves, President of The Webby Awards. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the nearly 14,000 entries we received this year.”

It’s been a busy year of firsts for The Soulhaus, which launched September 7, 2022.  Recognition for The Soulhaus’ innovative platform does not only lie with the Webby Honoree Award. Other recent and notable accomplishments include: 

  • Co-founder Jocelyn McCall listed as an honoree for ‘EveryStylish Girl 35 Under 35’ covered by Essence and Edition Modern Luxury  
  • The Soulhaus is registered with the Black Owned Media Equity and Sustainability Institute’s (BOMESI) public database of Black-owned media outlets  
  • The Soulhaus joined the Ebony Alliance as a publisher within a newly launched ad network
  • The Soulhaus became a media partner to Chirpyest, founded by Colette Shelton in 2020. Chirpyest is a Black-owned and women-led social commerce marketplace where consumers earn cash back for shopping or sharing product finds from 1000+ retailers. The partnership focuses on supporting Black-owned businesses through editorial content curation.

The name and editorial categories are a nod to the multidisciplinary nature of Germany’s iconic Bauhaus School of Design. Today Bauhaus is an expression that is synonymous with design all over the world. The influence of Bauhaus has been enormous and aided in an unstoppable cultural movement, despite the school’s short lifespan. The Soulhaus aspires to be a similar guiding light.
